Globe use traffic shaping software to limit the speed of your connection and to shape traffic to block illegal downloads such as movie torrents. You cannot completely bypass these limits unless you tunnel your connection over the internet via a SSH tunnel, VPN or ping/dns tunnel. However, there are ways to improve the speed of your torrents and avoid getting blocked.

You need to set your torrent software to automatically swap incoming ports at launch and if possible every 30 minutes or so to improve your speed. You should ensure you don’t use the default ports set in your torrent client, since these are usually blocked or heavily limited by Globe. Next you need to select to only connect to encrypted peers. Globes proxy has a hard time working out what your traffic is when it’s encrypted. This means you can improve your speed and download torrents without interruption.

You should limit your speed to just below the maximum you can reliably receive. For example if you can receive a steady 100Kb/sec with the occasional spike to 130Kb/sec, you should limit your connection to the steady speed and not allow it to spike. If your connection spikes too often, Globe apply a speed throttle to your connection and the result is a slower browsing/downloading experience than if you were to just stay with the steady speed.

openDNS public resolvers use BIND to answer DNS queries, listening on 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220. Aside from answering requests on port 53, their servers also listen on the non-standard port 5353 for users whose ISP aggressively block third party DNS servers.

You may be thinking that since there’s only 2 IP addresses, openDNS only operate 2 servers. Those IP addresses are actually anycast IPs which magically redirect your requests to which server is physically closest to you. This means that they can point your computer in the direction of whichever server could best serve it without you having to work out for yourself which of the opendns servers are closest to you.

There’s some controversy over openDNS blocking system which abuses the NXDOMAIN option to redirect your computer to their block server as aposed to the site you really wanted to visit. Although it’s a trivial exercise to bypass openDNS blocks. There’s also been complaints in the past related to showing ad filled pages instead of a 404 when you try to visit a non-existant domain.

Shopping. Sale Singapore. You’ll really get all excited and frantic when you visit Singapore during the sale season. We were lucky to visit the Lion City during the grand IT sale. All IT-related products were on sale from laptops to USB drives. We went to the LCD TV section and saw hundreds of TVs all lined up. Gosh. There were tons of choices.

Samsung, Sony, Sharp and other giant manufacturers of quality plasma and LCD TV were there to show the latest and best TVs with great discounts. I’m not really a techie but I would really love to watch my movies on a big screen with awesome picture clarity and sound quality. Of course there’s the movie houses but your home cinematic experience should mimic that. I really like the way these new TVs show the pictures. You could see the vibrant colors. The sound is also good. The good thing about this sale is that you get the item at a discount plus freebies like DVD players.

We went out of the building with an LCD TV on tow. We didn’t know how we ‘ll bring them home but it was too good a deal to walk away from. Now I have more reasons to stay at home. Yipee!

I really love watching movies and TV shows. I make it a point to check out the latest flicks and episodes of my favorite shows. Thank God for the Internet since I get to see episodes and movies I missed. Since I live alone, I love to spend my evenings watching movies or staring at the TV until I feel sleepy.

Some people prefer to watch movies with somebody. I don’t really mind if i’m all alone. That saves me the hassle of a friend asking me to repeat the last line or to explain the scene. In this way I could concentrate on what I am watching and really digest what the movie is all about. While watching The Hours, the last thing I needed was someone who who will bug me for explanations. That film really got me thinking the entire time.

It feels good to be able to digest what the director was trying to tell you. You need to pay close attention to the little details of the film. When watching heavy films, its good you enjoy your solitude. Annoying friends or seat mates are the last thing you need.

Late night. Every thing was quiet. All I could hear were the gentle rustling of leaves in the soft breeze. I really need to think. I need to come up with something for our presentation tomorrow. OK, I was tasked to create a script for a short skit for our little get together. I had a lot of ideas but none of them seemed right. I think I need to sleep on it and get some rest.

Creating a script is not an easy thing to do. You need to have a vision and derive inspiration from something. To write a great script, you have to focus and think for things you would want to share. These may be issues, funny anecdotes, a grand talent showcase and etc. The long list goes on. There are so many stories you could create. Think of your target audience. Be sure to capture their attention and the script should send the message across.

When I woke up, it was still quiet and the sun was just about to rise. When I faced the screen ideas just kept pouring in. I continued at a steady pace until it was time for me to wrap it up. I can’t wait to share this with them. Hope they like it. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Back in college, we tasked to do an ad campaign for our marketing subject. The purpose was for us to endorse a particular product. We exchanged ideas and created a commercial. My group mate suggested that we create a storyboard so we could get a picture of what we were trying to achieve. At first I did not get what she said then she showed me an example. Got it.

Storyboards are the series of images and pictures that are displayed in sequence to give a clear view of a movie, animation or interactive media. This process was developed by the people at the Walt Disney Studios in the 1930s. In films, the storyboard is used to visualize the scenes and anticipate the possible problems they might encounter while filming. This also aids directors make an estimate as to how much a particular scene will cost like in action films. Some films may not use any storyboards and would only rely on the script while animations would rather focus on storyboards in place of a written script.

After we created a mock-up of the scenes, we now had an idea as to how we want the commercial to look like. Shooting it was realy easy since we had a grasp of what angles to use, what materials we needed.

The films industry has been thriving since God knows when. It had its ups and downs but it manages to bounce back and entertain people. A movie or TV show will not be made possible without the collaboration of all the minds and talents of those involved. The director is one of the most important since he is the one who directs the people.

The film director is tasked to realize his vision of the script. He controls the artistic and dramatic aspects of the film. He is the one who carries out the vision and set the tone and mood of the movie. They make sure that the lights, camera angles, set designs and effects are all according to the desired output. The director sometimes oversees the hiring of key crew member who will work with him.

The director’s job does not stop when the cameras stop rolling. They make sure that in editing, the vision of the film does not change. From start to finish, they are there to provide guidance. They truly deserve recognition for the work that they do.

Last weekend, I made my usual trip to the grocery to buy a month’s worth of food for myself. As expected, there were a lot of people which made it difficult to maneuver through the crowded aisles. I started with the fresh produce. Even if a lot of people have told me that i’m getting thinner by the day, I still stuck to my no-red-meat diet. I took a couple of mangoes, an avocado and kiwi. I also a number of vegetables into my cart. I just love eating fresh fruits and vegetables.

As a source of protein, I got tofu steak and some canned tuna. I also got parmesan and cream cheese. I try create a balanced meal complete with the essential nutrients. For source of carbs, I grabbed a pack freshly baked whole wheat bread and spinach fettucine. I was also tempted to get a bottle of red wine but decided againts it. My cart was already overflowing with stuff and I have to stick to a budget. I still had to grab some toiletries like moisturizer and body lotion. It pays to keep a list with you so you only grab the things you need.

Be a wise buyer. Spend on quality and healthy food. You get value for your money plus it helps you make a healthy diet.

When I got back from the beach I was feeling sick because of the weird weather. The weather in the tropics is very unpredictable, one moment its sunny, another its raining cats and dogs. No wonder some of us got colds because of the sudden changes in the temperature. Since getting sick is not an option, I decided to take meds and some vitamins.

I decided to get multivitamins to get that complete recommended dietary allowance thing going. It pays to be ready, right. I also got Vitamin C for my colds since it really helps get rid of that. Vitamin E for my skin. Obviously with the repeated exposure to the sun, I had to pamper and treat my skin the right way. I’m treating it inside and out. Hopefully it all works out for me. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the cold will go away.

Obviously, I was responsible enough to ask a doctor the right dosage of what I was taking. I don’t wanna play doctor and end up getting sick instead.

With all the things around us, life gets to be so complicated. Every day we face different issues that try our patience and strength. Work can sometimes get so toxic that you just want to scream you head off in the middle of a meeting. How do you escape from all these things? How do you maintain a stable and sound frame of mind?

The key to getting a grip with every thing around us is by having a positive outlook. Remember to relax and take a few minutes of peace and quiet when your feeling all tired and stressed. During weekends, do not think anything about work. Work remains in the office. Plan your weekend. Take a trip to the spa and pamper yourself with a deep-tissue massage and a facial. Treat yourself to a hearty meal. Remember to eat right and maintain a healthy diet. Have time for your friends and family. As mush as possible, expand your social circle and mingle with others. Get enough rest by sleeping and chilling at home. Alone time is important. Listen to music, read a book and just enjoy the moment.

When you go back to work on Monday, remember to take one step at a time. Smile and think positive.

Years ago, I had a brilliant idea of working on a night shift. I was young and careless then and a lot of people were into it. So to earn some cash and have something to do, I decided to try it out. Working on the night shift has its perks. You don’t have to deal with the heat of the sun on your way to work. You can breeze through the streets since there are no traffic jams.

As expected, it also has its negative effects. I always had the problem of falling asleep during the day. When I wake up, I feel tired even if I slept for a full eight hours. I also felt my skin drying up and my pores all big and conspicuous, not something I could continue ignoring. Disturbing. Another thing is that you don’t get to enjoy the usual things you do unlike before. You lose time with family and friends who are all working on the normal day shift. Social life becomes a thing of the past. Admit it, it gets boring if you hangout with colleagues 24/7.

With that experience, I decided to transfer to a day-shift job. At least now, I get to function like everybody else. It may have been a great experience but nothing beats the feeling of falling asleep the same time as everyone else does, at night.

Yesterday, I was flipping through the channels and saw an episode of Mr. Bean wherein he was struggling to sleep. He tried doing a lot of things to send himself to dreamland. It was a funny way of portraying sleep problems. I admit that sometimes I have a problem sleeping at night. There are a lot of factors that cause these things. Insomnia is not an easy thing to deal with. Many people suffer from it and it sure brings out a lot of health issues.

The common cause of insomia is psychoactive drugs or stimulants like caffeine. They keep you up and active thus making sleeping difficult. Hormone shifts in wmen who are nearing menopausal or having a mentruation. Stress, fear and anxiety also contribute. Disturbances on the circadian rhythm like jet lag and shifting working schedules tend to disrupt the normal body clock. Mental disorders and medical conditions also cause insomia to develop. People often turn to sleep inducing pills and other sedatives to help them relax and eventually fall asleep.

Sleep is an important aspect in the body’s relaxation and renewal process. Thus it is advisable to have at least eight hours of sleep so as to avoid being cranky. Trust me, lack of sleep makes you look like crap.

Sleepless nights. Deadlines. Reports. I’m sure a lot of us have experienced these especially during our college years. I remember drinking three cups of coffee just to keep me awake to do a paper due first thing in the morning. Talk about caffeine overload. I dunno but that never worked for me. During dance rehearsals, some of my teammates took energy drinks to keep them all perky and alert.

Energy drinks are designed to improve the physical activity of the drinker. These are designed to enhance mental alertness. The main ingredient is caffeine and other vitamins and supplements are added to enhance its effects and get the desired results. When I tried them, somehow you get to be more alert and energized. You feel energetic and ready to do what you have to do. The bad side is that after it wears off, you feel really tired. Really tired. Others also experience abnormal heart rhythms. Red Bull was once reported to have caused the death of an Irish athlete after he consumed four cans. Really scary stuff.

I think the best way to keep your wits up is to eat right and have the right mindset. If you are focused on your desired goal, you can surely get it.

They say that the best outlet to release your anger is to engage in strenuous activities like sports. This really heaps especially if you don’t have any other outlet. Just be sure not to hurt the other players in whatever sport you are in. Personally I just dance or jog to get things off my head. I never really explored other means until my friend introduced the idea of boxing.

I was never a fan of boxing as a sport. Actually, I do not see it as a sport. I see it as similar to cock fighting where cocks/roosters, in this case guys, fighting while thousands watch and place their bets. Boxibng gyms and clubs have been popping out because it has become a great exercise. Many people keep in tiptop shape because of boxing. It strengthens your upper body since you always use your arms and torso when you box. I watched my friend do it and found it really interesting. You get an intense work out plus you get a chance to release your rage on the big punching bag, all willing and silent every time you hit it. I suggest you take that person’s pic, stick it up the punching bag and do your magic. At least in this way you don’t hurt anybody.

After watching that session, I now wanted to try it out. This should be interesting. Gosh, I hope next time I go back to the gym there’s a cute guy who’ll watch me do my thing.

Working for multinational companies has its ups and downs. They sure do have great benefits and a good compensation package. On the down side, a lot of stress is also involved. Trust me, I should know. With the enormous stress involved, I make it a point to maintain work-life balance. I keep myself sane by doing different activities aside from work.

First, I try my best to stay not more than 9 hours in the office. Its best to do all the work within the required number of hours. In this way, you time to do other activities. Keep your mind and body fit. Engage in sports or follow a regular exercise routine. If your work chains you to a PC and a desk for eight hours, be sure to have enough exercise or you’ll surely pack up some pounds. Trust me, you’ll notice that when you need to open your buttons after taking a big lunch. Maintain a healthy relationship with colleagues, friends and family. It helps a lot if you interact with different people. It allows you to expand your network which could be beneficial both in your work and in your personal life. Socialize with the right crowd. Get enough rest. It is important to relax and unwind. Get at least eight hours worth of sleep. On weekends, treat yourself to a spa or you can go shopping.

Always have a positive outlook. Remember to always smile. Smile and the world smiles with you.

We often get this question when we are out socializing. People will always ask what you do for a living so as to get a sense of who you really are. Admit it, not all of us are proud or at ease with what we do. Many of us sometimes feel that our job right now is not the one that will bring out the best in us.

There are three major ways to view your work. Some of us see it as a job. This means that you are only there for financial rewards. The work itself means little to you and you only stick to it because of the pay. You will most likely move to a new opportunity if it offers better compensation. Another way to see it is as a career. You see it as great place to excel and climb up the corporate ladder. You want to be the best in that industry thus you work hard to be on top. You are driven by the status, power and the prestige that the job has to offer. This is common in corporate and high profile jobs. Lastly, you see it as a calling. You focus not on the career and financial aspect but on the fulfillment that the job brings. People see teaching and helping the poor a calling. We may not understand some of the people who do this, but it is what they believe in.

Its important to know how satisfied are you with what you do. Its better to know early so you can change your path. Think about it.

Millions out there are suffering from job dissatisfaction. I left a job at a big company because I felt that my options became limited and the work itself has become too monotonous. It felt like I was not learning anything from it. It is important to do something that you love to do so you’ll have the much needed fulfillment and satisfaction. We usually start out eager in our work, but as time passes, our attitude towards it changes.

There are a lot of factors that drive one to lose interest working. Conflicts with colleagues and bosses are a big factor. It is hard to function in an environment wherein people are always out to get you. The pay is also another consideration. You need to feel well compensated for the kind of work you do. The workplace should be equipped with the right resources for you to do your job efficiently. Lack of opportunities for promotion also drives people away from companies. Employers should make sure that employees get a sense of the organization. They should feel that there is a chance for growth, an rcpt. Job security is a big consideration. Employees must feel secure that they will still have their jobs in a week or in the coming months. The work itself should not be too monotonous and boring. It should provide additional learning and skills that would develop the employee. It should tap the employees skills and educational background. Companies must also practice work-life balance so as to avid employees from getting stressed.

Do you feel happy and fulfilled with what you do now?

I never got the chance to finish Adam Sandler’s movie “Anger Management”. All I know is that he was sent to take anger management classes under Jack Nicholson who has some temper issues himself. Funny, but there are really people who attend these classes to improve their tolerance and control their temper. Well, I may have a temper problem but not always. I just have a lot of mood swings.

The first thing I do when i’m really pissed is to try to breath deeply. Thank God for those yoga classes that helped me relax. Another way is to channel your anger in other means like exercise. You can run, swim, dance or box. Remember to think before you speak and act. You want to end up regretting doing something you shouldn’t have. Remember to vent it out. Talk with someone like a friend, family member or a counselor. Talk it out with the person who is involved. Try to resolve the matter as quickly as possible. Remember to forgive and never hold a grudge.

Make yourself happy by eating comfort food like chocolate or ice cream. You can also try retail therapy. Believe me, that works ALL the time.

Before I go out, I make sure that I have sunscreen on so as to protect my skin from the harmful UV rays. So there I was, enjoying the beach, confident that my SPF 70 sunblock would prevent any sunburns, I also applied some tanning oil to make my skin more radiant. Since I was in the water for a long time, I decided to apply sunblock again.

Oopps, I forgot to bring my sunblock so I rummage through my friends stuff hoping they brought one. Some of them were busy putting on Coconut Oil. I heard its really good for tanning so I joined the bandwagon and applied some on myself. After an hour in the water and under the sun, I noticed that my skin was getting red. OK, obviously the coconut oil provided no sun protection and it only made the sun’s power more menacing on my skin. To keep it short, it sort of ‘cooked’ my skin.

All of had sunburned skin. Argh. Oh well, I guess that’s part of the entire beach experience. Good thing I brought some after sun soothing gel. Its a relief, for now.

Last night, after removing my contact lenses, I noticed that there was a certain discomfort on my right eye. I didn’t mind it at first since I was used to things like these. Then when it didn’t go away, I decided to use some eye drops to try soothe my eye. Still, nothing happened. When I examined it, I didn’t see any lash or dirt but my eye was all red and bloodshot. I then decided to go to the hospital to have it checked.

When I got there, there were a lot of people with different health issues. When the medical intern(who was kinda cute) checked my eye, he said that it looked fine. He would just drop some fluid that would show if there is any damage. We then waited for the ophthalmologist to arrive to check it. When she arrived, she examined my eye through some apparatus. It was kinda weird but it didn’t hurt. When it was over, she said that my eye was just stressed and advised me to change my contact lenses and refrain from wearing it for a week. Argh. That means I have to wear glasses for an entire week. Too bad. Oh well, at least there was nothing serious in my eye. She gave me eye drops to soothe my eyes.

Good thing I was the paranoid type. At least I know that my eye is fine. Hmm. What color for my lenses should I choose?

A friend of mine is a certified yoga instructor, He studied yoga in Mysore, India and has come a long way from his humble beginnings. It was in his classes that I learned how to practice yoga and do some of the poses. I have always done yoga in a closed room with a lot of other people. I’m sure it would be a great treat to do it somewhere else.

Then he suggested the idea that we do it by the beach. This is really nice since yoga is all about meditation and focus. The gentle lapping of the waves provides a very soothing music. The soft breeze blowing against your body provides the needed ventilation. We placed out mats under the shade of a tree and started the exercise. It was a great feeling since you feel like you’re really one with nature. Every pose you do, you see the beautiful scenery and feel everything around you.

After yoga, we all felt relieved and happy. It made this trip more interesting and fruitful. It was a great contrast to the endless parties at night. I think I’ll do this more often.

A relaxing vacation should not be all about EATING AND SLEEPING. Well, at least in my definition. Its a chance to rejuvenate your stressed out mind and body. It is an escape from the hustle and bustle of the urban jungle. The vacation is the chance to relax, think and improve your wellness. My recent vacation was not all about getting wasted and eating all fatty foods.

Even if there is an endless array of parties, its still best what you have. A shot of tequila has a lot of calories. Smoothies are a better alternative to soda. Fresh seafood and salads are a better choice than steaks and mashed potatoes. Remember that you are on a vacation to relax and unwind, not to gain weight. You worked so hard for months to get that amazing beach body. Why pack up on carbs and fat while dining out?

We all need rest and some fun. Remember to keep fun at a minimum. If you can’t try to be responsible and watch what you gobble. After all, what you eat is what you are.

Another hot day. The weather is just perfect for playing outside. Well, that would depend on what games you like. Since I’m on a beach trip with friends, we all decided to go against mother nature and ride the waves. Not really surf but just go against it or something like that. We put on our sunscreen and headed out into the ocean.

A few minutes into the activity, most of us were already out of breath. Well, we only stayed in waist-deep waters for safety. It would be hard to swim in these waters. Every time a big wave is coming, we ready ourselves and jump with it. We make sure that our heads are higher than the crest so we don’t drink a lot of saltwater. Swimming is a great exercise but wave-hopping(for a lack of a better term) is also good. I enjoyed jumping and braving the angry waves and at the same time burned a lot of calories in the process. Its like hitting two birds with one stone.

When we got out of the water, we were all tired and panting. It was a great experience and exercise. I never knew doing that was so much fun yet tiring.
